A painting of a woman sat reading a book

Early Twentieth-Century British

This collection includes work by significant British artists, across a range of styles, formats and influences.

There's work by Philip Wilson Steer, Walter Sickert and Samuel John Peploe. Each showing how French art (including French Impressionism) influenced British artists.

The collection also includes iconic works by Wyndham Lewis, David Bomberg. Plus the subtly brilliant Gwen John, whose work is pictured above.

Sculpture, too, is represented through work by Glyn Warren Philpot and Jacob Epstein.

There’s such a range of work to enjoy in the collection. But one highlight is an intimate early work by Laura Knight. We also have a later work by Knight as part of the collection.
