Be inspired Herbert Draper’s painting Ulysses and the Sirens and join our artist in resident Maddie Morris in exploring the story through blackout poetry.
Using existing texts, you'll craft new narratives revealing hidden meanings within the lines of ancient myths and begin to explore them through queer and political lenses.
Maddie is the Ferens Artist in Residence whose work will be featured in our exhibition opening in January 2025 entitled Sirens: Women and the Sea. Maddie will be responding to Herbert James Draper’s painting Ulysses and the Sirens (c1909) which is on display in Gallery 4.
Maddie is a Folk singer and songwriter from Leeds who takes traditional songwriting and shines a light on contemporary issues about the world we live in. Their songs highlight inequality, challenge viewpoints, and provides an inclusive space for shared experiences.
Free, Drop in. Materials will be provided.
Held in the new Create Gallery upstairs in the Ferens Art Gallery, from 12-3pm.
